History of Yadkin and Davie Missionary Baptist Association (YDMBA)

The Yadkin and Davie Missionary Baptist Association was organized in 1888 at Cedar Creek Baptist Church in Cana North Carolina (now known as Farmington, North Carolina). It’s bounds extend through four counties: Davie, Yadkin, Iredell and Alexander.  It’s membership includes the Baptist churches in these counties. Over the years, some of the original churches have joined other Associations and some have ceased to be in operation, but the Association continues to move on.  Our Association is committed to supporting Christian Education by providing training, local missions and outreach programs.

On May 7, 1917, the Association acquired a tract of land consisting of 142 acres more or less, located in the Northwest section of Iredell County, bordering on the Wilkes County line. The site is mountainous, wooded and offers a variety of possibilities for development. At one time, Sommersville Baptist Church was located on the property and the cemetery still stands as a reminder of the past.  Former Moderator and Pastor, L.R. Howell had a vision to build on the Association property a place where we all might assemble for religious and recreational activities and to strengthen the bonds of unity in the membership of the Churches.  The land was cleared and a multipurpose shelter was built.  A septic tank and a well was installed.  Vandals burned the shelter and now members of the Mountain Project committee is gathering  details to submit to the Association to keep the vision alive.  The Association continues to grow and on August 2013 another Church was added to the Association.  Clark's Memorial Baptist Church which is located in Yadkin County near the city of Boonville, NC.  Several other churches have expressed interest and we know it is just a matter of time before too will be added to the fellowship.
